(Here’s some powerful thoughts on repentance from Colin. – Curly)
For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold under sin. For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good. So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. Romans 7:14-20
Are you living a double life? Are you double-minded? If we’re honest we would all have to plead guilty. This scripture from Romans 7 gives us a clear picture of ourselves and the spiritual battle between darkness and light and between Satan and God we all fall victim to. That’s why we need to be in prayer with and for each other, praying that the Holy Spirit will be gracious to open our eyes to God’s Truth.
to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me. Acts 26:18
I would suggest you read the book of Romans. Let it provide you with the knowledge and understanding of our sinful nature. The Lord can and will show you the condition of your heart, but we must be brave to ask Him to make that knowledge known to us. As we learn the ugly truth, our repentance should follow. This is not a repentance for some future date, we are called to REPENT RIGHT NOW. You are a slave to sin as you read this and it is time to come to grips with that understanding by using God’s great gift of repentance and forgiveness. The enemy is speaking lies to you and trying to deceive you into believing those lies. His greatest wish is to turn your heart into stone.
I’m sure at times it feels like you have made too many unforgivable mistakes. You might even think that you can never come back to Christ and untangled the mess of your life. DO NOT BELIEVE THIS LIE! The enemy is trying to blind and deceive you. He doesn’t want you to know the truth that Jesus Christ is your only hope.
So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law but in the sinful nature a slave to the law of sin. Romans 7:21-25
We might know that Jesus Christ is the only answer, but we must still stand firm in our faith daily as we faithfully continue to pray and repent, putting on the armor Christ gives us through the Holy Spirit.
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints Ephesians 6:10-18
Let us all pray for all of those who feel that there is no escape from the problems that they have created by their own selfish desires. Christ is standing at the door of our hearts, waiting for us to let Him come in so that He might transform our very lives. Repent and ask for the forgiveness Christ is so generously offering you. Start your spiritual journey with Him right now, this very moment.
Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:19-20
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23
Don’t give in to or your tiredness, your loneliness or your unbelief. Remember, we are in a spiritual battle and we are called to stop being of a double mind. Believe in the Lord’s power, believe in the Name of Jesus and be proud to carry on the Sword of the Spirit in every battle.
