(Warriors, a reminder of the basics is always benificial. Colin gives us a good reminder to ‘armor up’ as well as ‘look up, for our redemption is coming soon’. — Curly)
I am going to take you on a pretty fast leap around scripture but I hope you’ll bear with me because I thought it was some pretty interesting addition. You know “2+2=4” type stuff. As the starting point let’s consider one of my all time favorite passages found in Ephesians.
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (Romans 13:12 – The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.)
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (1 Peter 5:8 – Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour)
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. (2 Corinthians 6:7 – 7By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left)
As you can see this armor of God is some good stuff. If we expect to face this world and the powers that dwell in it, then we had better be familiar with it and wear it.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, (John 14:6 – Jesus saith unto him, I am… the truth) and having on the breastplate of righteousness; (2 Peter 1:1b – .to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ)
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; (Isaiah 9:6 – For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given. and his name shall be called. The Prince of Peace.
Above all, taking the shield of faith (Psalm 28:7 – The LORD is my strength and my shield), wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
And take the helmet of salvation (Psalm 27:1a – The LORD is my light and my salvation), and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: (John 1:14a – And the Word was made flesh)
Do you see it? The best armor we have to protect us from our flesh, the world, and demonic powers is Jesus. The best offense and defense we have for fighting the enemy within and without is the very Son of God.
Romans 13:11-14 And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. 13 Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.
The day of the Lord is quickly approaching. I do not know if it will be tomorrow or years from now but I know, as surely as the sun will rise tomorrow, that the Son will return. Let us clothe ourselves in him in anticipation of his return. So how well do you know your armor? How well do you know Jesus?
